Error: Could not install software necessary for the add-in
Problems with an existing Windows installation of certain libraries may cause errors when installing the Data Everywhere add-in. You may receive a message that the add-in was unable to install because of an error installing certain other software.
If so, you will be given the location of a log file (something like C:\Users\%YOURNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD8909.tmp\logfile.txt). At the bottom of that file you may find a message like:
Installing using command
and parameters ‘ /q /norestart’
Process exited with code 1603
VSTO is Visual Studio Tools for Office, a software library that is published by Microsoft to enable new software to work with Excel 2007, Excel 2010, and other Office products. Data Everywhere uses VSTO as part of the Add-In. This message indicates that the VSTO library failed to install. It can typically be fixed by following these steps:
- Uninstall .NET Framework 4.0 (Client Profile, Extended, and Multiple-targeting pack)
- Turn off .NET 35 in OS feature (Turn Windows Features On or Off)
- Re-enable .NET 35 in OS feature;
- Install VSTOR V3.
- Reinstall .NET 4.0
